#PrayForSriLanka: Instagram Artists Pay Homage to Blast Victims

In one of the worst tragedies to have ever hit Sri Lanka, nearly 300 people were killed and over 500 were injured in a series of explosions targeting churches and high-end hotels on Sunday, 21 April.

The tragedy took place on the day of Easter, marring the celebrations of Christians around the world. Artists took to Instagram to express their condolences and pay homage to the victims of the bombings.

Comic artist, @gumpnhell captioned her work, “Religion indeed removes us from sin but how much did we sin in the name of religion?”

International sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik also condemned the attack on Sri Lanka, captioning his sand art, “#WeAreWithSriLanka.”

French caricaturist Emmanuel Chaunu’s cartoon linked Sri Lanka’s tragedy with that of Notre Dame, taking a dig at the millions of dollars donated for the burnt building but not after the loss of human lives. One Facebook comment reads, “It would be so much to ask L’Oréal and LMVH to donate a few euros.”
