CLAIM
A video doing rounds on the internet is claiming that a missing Tamil girl has been found in Nagpur.
The video shows a police officer appealing to the family of the girl to come and take her from the police station. He further adds that the child is unable to provide any details about her and her family and the video must be shared so that it reaches her parents.
The video has been repeatedly shared on Facebook and YouTube with the same captions in English and Tamil.
WHAT’S THE TRUTH?
The Quint could verify that the video is not from Nagpur, but Karachi in Pakistan and we were able to trace it back to December 2018.
In the video, the policeman identifies himself as Sarfaraz Amam from Khawaja Ajmer Nagri Police Station which is in Karachi, Pakistan.
He further says that his number starts with ‘0300’ which is the STD code of Pakistan. We also compared the uniform of the cop with the uniform of the Pakistan police.
On establishing that the video is from Pakistan we used keywords ‘Khwaja Ajmer Nagari police Karachi missing baby’ and came across a video uploaded by a YouTube channel called ‘Ant TV’ on 4 December, 2018
So the claim that the video is from Nagpur and the baby is a Tamil kid is completely false.
