WHAT WE FOUND OUT

We searched on YouTube using keywords ‘crocodile heavy rain’ and found a video that was uploaded on 10 August with the caption ‘Crocodile in the city due to continuing rain, heavy rain cause wild animal to get in the city’. The description of the video suggests that it is from Gujarat.

Consequently we did a YouTube search using keywords ‘Gujarat crocodile heavy rain’ and found a NDTV bulletin uploaded on 3 August with the caption ‘Chilling Crocodile Rescue From Flooded Street In Gujarat’.

According to NDTV, the video is from Gujarat’s Vadodara which had received a rainfall of 500 millimeters in 24 hours. As a result of overflowing rivers, crocodiles were out on streets that created a situation of panic among the residents.

The NDTV bulletin also shows a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) adopting measures to rescue a crocodile. In the bulletin, it can be seen how a man is covering crocodile’s face with a towel, following which he sits on the crocodile to gives an indication to others to do the same.

Some social media users have also claimed that the video is from Rajendra Nagar in Patna.
