On 9 November, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kartarpur Corridor and flagged off the first batch of pilgrims travelling to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, the final resting place of Guru Nanak, in Pakistan.

CLAIM

Amid cheers and celebrations, a few people took to Twitter to claim that the Pakistan government has put their national flag on top of the gurdwara instead of the Khanda flag, which is the religious Sikh flag hoisted outside most gurdwaras.

Users shared two top view pictures which showed the flag on top of a white building which they claimed was Gurdwara Darbar Sahib.

TRUE OR FALSE?

Well, the claim along with which the photographs are being shared is completely false. The images are not of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib but of the Immigration Office Kartarpur Corridor.

WHAT WE FOUND OUT

On checking the Google Earth view of the Kartarpur Corridor, we discovered that the flag could be on the Immigration Office in Pakistan near the Kartarpur Corridor and not the Gurudwara.

The Quint’s journalist Poonam Aggarwal, who travelled through the Kartarpur corridor to visit the Gurdwara, too corroborated that the image which was circulated online was that of the immigration office near the zero point and not the Sikh pilgrimage.
