A video was tweeted on 23 September by Mahesh Vikram Hegde, the founder of Postcard news who is infamous for peddling fake news.
The caption with the video reads, “This Maulvi sexually harassed a girl in a Madrasa who was sent to learn Quran. But no news in Media; Imagine if it was a Hindu Swami, what would the Indian Media have had done? Shame on this man! (sic)”
The video, at the time this article was written, was retweeted over 2,000 times and liked by 2,600 people.

WHAT IS THE TRUTH?
The video is of an incident that took place Pakistan in 2018.
WHAT WE FOUND OUT
We broke down the video into several key frames and conducted a reverse image search. The results showed that the video is from Pakistan and the incident happened in 2018.
On further investigation by searching the keywords “Maulvi molested 8-year-old girl”. we came across several reports by Indian media as opposed to the claim made by Hegde.
We also found the incident was reported by Times Now, Amar Ujala and Scoop Whoop .
The Quint also found a Facebook post by Pakistan-based media channel ARY News reporting the incident with the video.
The caption of the video read “Mother of an 8-year-old barges into a mosque and beats up the molvi who tried to molest her daughter.”
