CLAIM

A message claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving Rs 10,000 to girls between the age of 1-18 years is doing the rounds. The message also claims that the last day to register to avail the benefits of this scheme is 15 August.

VERDICT: TRUE OR FAKE?

The message is fake.

Firstly, when you link on the link and go to the ‘About us’ section the message clearly reads that the website is not linked to the government of India in any way.

‘Neither is the website linked to the government of India now are we trying to take anything from you. The purpose of this website is to create awareness among people about this scheme.’

Secondly, the link in the message is ‘http://sukanya-yojna.m-indian-gov.in/’, while the the official website of the government of India is the National Portal of India (india.gov.in).

When the user clicks on the page, it redirects to a page where one is required to fill out their personal details.

However, noting that the page does not ask for any contact details, fact-checking website SM Hoax Slayer questions the intent of the link. So all it wanted was traffic?

On discerning the URL of the website it could only be found that the website was created on 6 August and was created in Maharashtra.
