CLAIM

A video is being widely shared on Twitter and Facebook with multiple users alleging that a Muslim mob carried out a procession shouting slogans against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The video goes with the insinuation that the incident happened after Tabrez Ansari was lynched on suspicion of theft in Jharkhand.

People can also be heard raising slogans in favour of Ansari saying that there will be a revolution. They can also be heard saying “Allahu Akbhar” and “RSS murdabad”.

At the time of writing the story, the aforementioned video had garnered over 6,800 views.

The same video was shared by multiple Twitter users and was also played up by a news channel that goes by the name of Sudarshan News

TRUE OR FALSE?

Well, the video is true but the narrative with which it is being shared is completely false. In reality, it is an old video from Bihar which shows a Muharram procession. The audio too has been tampered with to insert anti-RSS slogans.

WHAT WE FOUND OUT

On breaking down the video into key frames using the Google Chrome Invid extension, we found out that the video shows a Muharram procession in Dehri, Bihar and it is as old as 2017.

The video has no incendiary slogans like the ones raised in the viral video. On the contrary, a man can be heard making an announcement asking the crowd to keep moving forward and slowly.

We also found out that the same video has been used in the past where chants of ‘Jai Bhim’ have been added to the video.

The Quint contacted Sudarshan News to verify if the video was indeed aired by the channel but we didn’t receive a clear answer. However we found out that it was tweeted by their official handle, but the tweet has now been taken down.
