#WebQoof: Images Showing Dozens of Dead Pandas is Fake

The picture are fake. They were made for a 2011 campaign called, “When you see a tuna, think panda”.

Multiple pictures on social media show dozens of bloodied (seemingly dead) pandas piled on top of each other in a boat. The pictures have been circulated on social media from across the globe provoking “heart-breaking” reactions from people, reported AFP.

Facebook users expressed shock and dismay looking at the condition of these pandas.

According to a report in the AFP, a few commentators questioned the veracity of the picture and asked where these pictures were taken.

However, the pictures are fake. They were made for a 2011 campaign called, “When you see a tuna, think panda”. This was done to raise awareness about the threatened fish by the marine conservation activist group Sea Shepherd Global.

Speaking to AFP, a representative of the organisation said that the campaign generated the kind of reaction they had expected.

“It shows the hypocrisy that we were trying to put on display, that people will care for pandas, but not for fish, when they are also endangered,” the representative told AFP.
