Post-Mortem Shows Farmer Died of Injuries in R-Day Accident: Cops

A protester died near Delhi’s ITO at the farmers’ Republic Day tractor rally on Tuesday, 26 January.

A protester, identified as Navneet Singh from Bajpur, Uttarakhand, died near Delhi’s ITO at the farmers’ Republic Day tractor rally on Tuesday, 26 January. The incident took place near the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg where a toppled tractor was also seen. The farmer was on the tractor that met with an accident.

Speaking to ANI, Avinash Chandra, ADG Bareilly in Rampur, UP said that the post mortem report clarifies that the farmer was not shot but succumbed to the antemortem injuries which he received when his tractor turned turtle.

The police has also released CCTV footage from the location and have said that the death occurred due to the accident and no shots were fired.

Protesting farmers had on Tuesday claimed that the farmer was killed after being shot at by the Delhi Police.

Farmers had sat in protest with the dead body at ITO on Tuesday.

The tractor rally scheduled for Republic Day gathered steam when protesters who were part of the march breached the route from Ghazipur to reach Delhi’s ITO area. Police used tear gas as they broke police barricades placed opposite the Delhi Police headquarters at ITO.

Several injuries have also been reported during the clash between protesting farmers and the police. The protesters were also seen riding tractors and trying to drive through the crowd and run over police personnel.
