CLAIM

A viral message on WhatsApp claims that the Supreme Court has approved a logo for teachers to put on their cars, much like doctors and lawyers.

The logo has two palms curved with a book and pen in the centre – with the worlds “I want, I can, I will.”

The logo was introduced and designed by Rajesh Khanna, the principal of a government school in Ludhiana’s Jagraon.

The message has been viral on social media since last year.

TRUE OR FALSE?

This message is spam – the Supreme Court has approved no such logo for teachers. Further, the official website of the Supreme Court makes no mention of such a directive having been passed.

WHO DESIGNED THIS LOGO AND WHY?

The logo was introduced and designed by Rajesh Khanna, the principal of a government school in Ludhiana’s Jagraon town.

Posted by Teacher's Logo on Saturday, April 21, 2018

Speaking to The Quint, Khanna clarified that the logo had been released by him in September 2017, on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. Having been in the profession for over twenty years, Khanna released the logo to recognise the efforts of the community, he said.

However, there has been no directive from the Supreme Court regarding an ‘approval’ for the symbol, Khanna said.

“There has been no directive from SC of this sort, at least none that I know of. We are currently in the process of getting it approved as a trademark. However, the news of the SC approving this symbol is false.”

Khanna added that he was planning to now approach the Ministry of Human Resource Development and other concerned parties in order to get an official recognition for the symbol.
