1. 100-Year-Old Dies After Rape in UP

In an assault that has sent shock waves across UP, a 100-year-old bedridden woman, one of the oldest in the district, died soon after she was allegedly raped by a man who barged into her house in a village on the outskirts of Meerut around midnight on Sunday.

The man, identified by police as Ankit Punia, said to be around 35 years old, has been arrested and various charges, including rape, murder and sections of the SC/ST Act have been slapped against him. Mortified villagers have sought the death sentence for the culprit, who was produced in a local court and sent to jail.

2. Pickpockets Target Delhi BJP Chief

Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari's mobile phone was stolen from his pocket during a programme at the Ramlila Maidan in central Delhi. Police said that teams have been formed to track down the stolen phone. A few other phones, including that of Tiwari's personal security officer (PSO), were also stolen at the venue.


3. Minor Girl Dragged Along by Car, Suffers Hearing Loss

A two-and-a-half-year-old girl was dragged along by a car for a few metres and ended up suffering hearing loss as an impact of the accident in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj, police said today.

The incident happened on 19 October which was captured on a CCTV camera installed there, they said.

Aashika, was hit by a car, whose number was captured in the footage while she was crossing the road, the police said.

The driver kept on driving while she was dragged along by the car. He stopped the vehicle and later fled from the spot, they said.

4. Girl Archer's Throat Pierced by Arrow, Out of Danger

In a freak accident, an arrow shot by trainee pierced the throat of a 14-year-old girl archer at a Sports Authority of India centre in West Bengal's Birbhum district on 30 October.

Fazila Khatun was admitted to the Bolpur Sub-divisional Hospital with the arrow stuck to her throat. Hospital sources said she was operated and the arrow was removed.

5. Man Who Killed Wife by Pushing Her off Third Floor, Held: Cops

A 28-year-old man, allegedly involved in an extra-marital affair, killed his wife by pushing her off the third floor of an under-construction building in Pune on Saturday, police said Monday. The man took his wife to the building under the pretext of purchasing a new flat, but allegedly pushed her off the third floor on Saturday.


6. Man, Woman Found Hanging from Tree at Sinhagad Fort in Pune; Police Suspect Suicide

In a suspected case of suicide, a man and a woman were found hanging with ropes from a tree near Kalyan Darwaza of the historic Sinhagad Fort, located around 40 kilometers from Pune city, on Monday afternoon. As the last reports came in on Monday, police were yet to ascertain the sequence of events leading to the incident.


7. Kolkata Photographer Arrested for Posting 'Nude' Images of Women Clients Online

Howrah Police arrested a photographer on charges of morphing faces of young women clients to nude images and circulating them online, and sought tech company Google’s help in the investigation.

Binod Soren was arrested on Sunday night in Jagacha after a college student lodged a police complaint.

8. Barabanki Illicit Liquor Raid: Police Assault Killed Pregnant Woman, Say Locals

An inquiry has been ordered into the death of a pregnant Dalit woman after her family alleged that she died after being assaulted by police who raided their home on suspicion that they were manufacturing illicit liquor, in Barabanki district on Sunday.

However, Additional Superintendent of Police, South, Shashi Kant said, “The allegation of assault on the pregnant woman is false. There is no question of going to the woman’s house, which is far from the house where police conducted the operation.”


9. DU Student and Friends Kill Teen Over a Girl, Bury Him in Field

Fearing that he would lose the girl he was in love with to a friend, a 20-year-old Delhi University student decided to kill him. Roping in two friends, he took the teenager to the forested areas behind the farmhouses in Mehrauli and strangled him to death on Saturday evening. The trio then buried the body there, but called the family to demand a fake ransom of Rs 20 lakh for the boy's release.
