Patidar leaders and workers vandalised the Congress’ office in Surat, late on 19 November, hours after the Gujarat Congress and the Hardik Patel-led Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) announced that they had reached an agreement on reservation for Patels.

Protests erupted after only three PAAS members were given tickets in the Congress’ list of candidates for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly polls – the PAAS had demanded 20 seats

The Congress has fielded Patidar candidates Lalit Vasoya from Dhoraji and Amit Thummar from the Junagadh seat. Around 20 other Patel candidates, who are not members of the PAAS, also feature on the list.

Hardik Patel was scheduled to make an official announcement about the nitty-gritties of the reservation formula and the PAAS' stand on supporting the Congress in the elections at a public gathering in Rajkot on Monday, 20 November.
