Former AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala was expected to be released from the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru at 10 am on 27 January.
“Sasikala is conscious, alert and well oriented, her pulse rate is 70/minute & blood pressure is 126/70 mmHg,” said in a recent statement from Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute.
The Karnataka Home Department on Monday passed the order for her release according to sources in the jail.
Sasikala was moved out of the ICU after her coronavirus symptoms reduced.
The hospital, in a previous update about her health stated that hery condition was stable and “she was taking oral food normally and walking with support.”
Sasikala had tested positive for coronavirus last week and was hospitalised on 20 January.
She was admitted to the Bowring Hospital after she had complained of acute respirator issues and fever. Her sister-in-law, J Ilavarasi, who is also serving a jail term in the corruption case, was found COVID-19 positive. Her health condition is also stable. Her release is slated for the first week of February.
Sasikala and her sister in law J Ilavarasi were sentenced to four years imprisonment in February 2017 in a disproportionate assets case.
On the same day as her release, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Palaniswami is scheduled to inaugurate the Jayalaithaa memorial at Marina beach. Recently, he ended speculations by stating there is ‘no chance’ AIADMK will take Sasikala back into the party.
