On Tuesday, 18 December, while Modi was in Maharashtra to lay the foundation of a metro rail, Kishore Tiwari — the Chairperson of the Maharashtra government’s panel on farmer issues — wrote a letter to RSS chiefs asking them to replace Modi with Union Minister Gadkari for the Lok Sabha elections.
According to an IANS report, Kishore Tiwari, who heads the Vasantrao Naik Sheti Swavlamban Mission, asked for Modi’s replacement, complaining that Modi is interested “only in grandiose Bullet Trains and Metro Rail projects.”

The letter, which Tiwari addressed to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and General Secratary Bhaiyyaji Suresh Joshi, states that anti-people measures such as demonetisation, GST and fuel price hike were responsible for the BJP’s defeat in the recent Assembly elections. Tiwari implied that Modi is an arrogant and anti-farmer leader.
Blaming BJP’s election woes solely on Modi and Shah, Tiwari suggested that the BJP might improve its chances in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections if it replaced Modi with Gadkari. Tiwari believes that Nitin Gadkari, as a resolute BJP-RSS activist, is better qualified to the lead the party.
Tiwari feels that making Gadkari the face of the party will improve the BJP’s image before the 2019 elections.
