The top Congress leadership came out strong in its attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government’s Land Acquisition Bill.

Taking turns at the mega farmers’ rally held at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi, Rahul and Sonia Gandhi attacked the Prime Minister. The big political Sunday also saw AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh taking on the Modi government’s policies and called him anti-poor and anti-farmer.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi launched a full frontal attack on the government. Addressing the mega kisan rally, he said that the farmers today were unsure of their future because they are worried that their lands might be grabbed by the government any day.

Rahul alleged that Prime Minister had taken huge amounts of loans from corporate India and that he will use the land acquired from farmers to repay that debt.

As the audience cheered, Rahul Gandhi said that while the Prime Minister was on foreign soil, he insulted the previous government.

Prime Minister Modi went abroad and said that he is cleaning the garbage accumulated over the last 50 years. What he has said about India abroad, neither befits him, nor the office of the Prime Minister.

Rahul said that the Congress party has always worked for the poor and weak and will continue to fight their battle. He also attacked the Prime Minister’s Make in India project. He said that it was a dream that will never succeed. Rahul alleged that the government will take away farmers’ lands for Make in India and leave them unemployed.

After Rahul, Congress President Sonia Gandhi took charge and attacked the government and its policies. Sonia said that the BJP is conspiring against farmers and that the government has introduced amendments to a law that they had agreed to.

Sonia alleged that the amendments made are being made to benefit corporates and industrialists.

We are here to send a strong message to the Prime Minister and his government: Enough is enough. The relief that is being announced for farmers is next to nothing. it feels as if they are rubbing salt in your wounds.

But what started as an aggressive revival soon turned into an embarrassment for the Congress party. Farmers who had come to Ramlila Maidan from Haryana and even parts of Uttar Pradesh started to leave the venue even as the Congress President started talking.

Playing emcee of sorts at the event, AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh lauded party Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s efforts in Bhatta-Parsaul the villages in Uttar Pradesh where he led a padyatra in 2011. He said Rahul was the leader that the Congress party needed to take the farmers’ fight to its conclusion.

Rahul and Sonia Gandhi gave the farmers of this country their right under the Land Acquisition Act and now the BJP is attempting to take it away.

Next it was former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who took the opportunity to attack Modi-led NDA government. Singh said that the Land Bill introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is against UPA government’s Act of 2013 and that its intention is to hurt the interests of the farmer.

Singh also called the present government anti-government and said that Congress has gathered at Ramlila Maidan “to fight the anti farmer policies of the Modi government”.
