Why Did These States Resist the Modi Wave in the 2019 Elections?

In Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Meghalaya and Puducherry, the NDA got just FIVE seats out of 100.

The BJP-led NDA swept the 2019 elections, winning 303 seats on their own and a historic 352 seats with the alliance. States where the party has never won more than a sliver of the seats saw a saffron surge, like West Bengal, Odisha and Telangana.

But in a few states, the party saw little to no returns. In Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Meghalaya and Puducherry, the NDA got just FIVE seats out of 100. Was it just regional factors that made this happen or was it anger against the Modi government that led to this resistance?

Why did these states resist the massive Modi wave that swept the rest of India?
