Incessant and heavy rainfall over the past few days has brought life in various states across India to a standstill. Among others, the states of Kerala, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are the worst affected.

Here’s a look at how floods have crippled life in various parts of India.

The weather department has forecast a long delayed withdrawal of Monsoons and more rains for Patna, where several areas still remain submerged due to heavy rainfall over the past three days.

According to the state disaster management department, a total of 14 districts have been hit by flood-like situation caused by torrential rainfall in the past few days, most of these situated along the Ganga.

The flood hit states saw heavy deployment of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams. More than 4,000 people, including women and children, were rescued from the flood-affected areas of Patna on Monday, 30 September, the NDRF said.

Relief material was also distributed by NDRF and SDRF personnel who were reaching out to people marooned inside their homes, helping in relocation of those who so desired, and delivering packets of food, medicines and packaged drinking water to them.

A cyclonic circulation over Uttar Pradesh, which is approaching Bihar and Jharkhand, is likely to trigger more rain in Kolkata.

In Uttar Pradesh alone, 104 people have died in rain-related incidents as the death toll across the country mounted to 148.

Sandhaya Kureel, a spokeswoman of the Disaster Management and Relief Department, said most of the fatalities were caused by house collapses, lightning and drowning in Uttar Pradesh state.

Houses were inundated with flood water in Patna, causing great trouble to the residents who helped each other to evacuate the area.
