Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday, 21 June, skipped the Yoga Day celebrations in Patna. Even though Kumar, while being a part of the Mahagathbandhan, didn't organise Yoga day event in Bihar, many expected the CM to join the celebrations on Thursday.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi came to Kumar's defence, saying that everyone needn't participate in the celebrations, adding that he knew many JD(U) leaders who attended the event.

"It is not a question about JD(U). I know more than dozen people present here who are from JD(U). Don't people from RJD and JD(U) practice Yoga? It is not necessary that everyone comes out to participate," Sushil told news agency ANI.

The event in Patna was inaugurated by Bihar Governor Satyapal Malik and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Pataliputra MP Ram Kripal Yadav, India Today reported.

However, Ravi Shankar Prasad sounded less forgiving when quizzed about the absence of Bihar CM. "Nitish Kumar is a yoga enthusiast and yoga is a medium to connect. Media should find out what is the politics behind Nitish Kumar's absence,” he said, as quoted by India Today.
