As Karnataka gears up for the Assembly polls, Congress president Rahul Gandhi is leaving no stone unturned to make his presence felt in the state capital, Bengaluru.

Kicking off his day by addressing sanitary workers at Jakkarayana Kere, Gandhi assured them that if voted to power at the Centre, Congress would learn from Karnataka how to reward sanitation workers.

According to PTI, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who was present with Bengaluru Mayor R Sampath Raj at the event, told the Congress president that Karnataka has abolished sanitation contractors hiring sanitation workers and enhanced their salaries from Rs 7,500 to Rs 18,000. The workers, however, said they expect the Congress to regularise them if voted to power.

Now, when we get the government in Delhi, we will learn from the Karnataka government because the person doing the most difficult work should be rewarded the most… The problem in India is that the person doing the most difficult work is not rewarded and the person doing the easiest work is rewarded. That is what the Congress party wants to change.

In a bid to make his presence felt across the city, Gandhi opted to travel by the Bengaluru Metro and could be seen interacting and taking selfies with the passengers. The Congress president was also spotted buying books from Church Street and enjoying his lunch at Koshy’s restaurant on St Mark’s Road.

According to NDTV, during an informal meet with journalists, the Congress president spoke about the battle of ideologies in the state and how Karnataka could teach the country because of its synthetic culture.

He allegedly said it was a battle between Bengaluru and Nagpur – home to the RSS headquarters.

Wrapping up the sixth phase of his campaign in the state, Rahul Gandhi addressed a public gathering at Palace Grounds in Bengaluru where he hit out at BJP chief Amit Shah over his comment comparing Opposition leaders to cats, dogs and snakes.

The BJP president refers to the Opposition as ‘dogs’, ‘snakes’, and ‘cats.’ Let me tell you from this stage that no leader of the Congress party will ever use such despicable language.
