Win for Sidhu, Punjab Cabinet Accepts APS Deol's Resignation as Advocate General
Deol’s appointment had been opposed by Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Punjab Cabinet has accepted the resignation of Advocate General APS Deol, reported ANI, citing Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi.
Deol’s appointment had been opposed by Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and reports indicate that Deol’s removal had been repeatedly sought by Sidhu.
According to NDTV, Sidhu was sitting on Channi’s side when the announcement was made.
Earlier on Sunday, 7 November, in a series of tweets, Sidhu had slammed Deol accusing him of 'subverting justice by inaction' in the sacrilege and drugs cases.
"Mr AG-PUNJAB, Justice is blind but people of Punjab are not."
He said that Deol, who had earlier appeared for the main conspirators/accused in the sacrilege cases before the high court and made serious allegations against our government, is now representing the state.
Asking Deol to leave the politics to the politicians and focus on his personal conscience, integrity, and professional ethics, Sidhu also said, "Ethical people often do more than law requires and less than it allows. When it comes to ethics, motive is very important."
A day prior to that Deol had slammed Sidhu or "repeated utterances (that) seek to derail the earnest efforts of the state to ensure justice in the drugs matter and the sacrilege cases".
Deol had on 1 November handed his resignation to Chief Minister Channi, but Channi had soon declined the same. All these developments had come only after approximately a month of his appointment.
