Madhya Pradesh leader Jyotiraditya Scindia joined the BJP in the presence of party President JP Nadda on Wednesday, 11 March, a day after he tendered his resignation from the Congress, saying the path had been drawing itself out over last year.
Saying his goal has always been to serve the public, Scindia asserted the Congress’ inability to achieve the same. He gave examples of specific instances –such as promises made to farmers by Congress that went unfulfilled, widespread unemployment in Madhya Pradesh, and rampant corruption among the party ranks, saying that these had led to his decision to quit the party.
After he joined the BJP, the party subsequently nominated him as their Rajya Sabha candidate from Madhya Pradesh.
Congress Far Removed From Reality: Scindia
Speaking at his inaugration, Scindia criticised the Congress, saying that the party is not the same as it used to be and is far removed from reality, PTI reported.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters after being inducted into the party by its President JP Nadda, Scindia hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and said the country's future is secure in his hands.
Talking about his decades-old association with the Congress, Scindia said he was hurt and distressed as he was not being able to serve the people in the party. Attacking the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh, he said the dream which he, along with his former colleagues, saw for Madhya Pradesh has been shattered in 18 months.
Scindia invoked the memory of his father, Madhavrao Scindia, in the speech, and also spoke about his own motives and political history. Saying that his decision was motivated by a desire to be honest and to serve the public, he thanked the BJP leadership for providing a platform for him to achieve these goals.

The resignation of Scindia, followed by the resignations of 22 MLAs loyal to him, has pushed the 15-month-old Madhya Pradesh government led by Kamal Nath to the brink.
In a bid to keep its flock together, the state Congress decided to shift its 95 MLAs to Jaipur. Meanwhile, senior party leader Digvijaya Singh claimed on Wednesday that 13 out of the 22 rebel MLAs have assured that they are not leaving the Congress.
