The latest ABP/C-Voter survey released on Friday, 18 October, just days before the Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana on 21 October, has shown high popularity for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government in both the states. This trend comes even as majority of the respondents in the two states said they want to change the state government and chief minister "immediately".
To the question of whether they want a different prime minister immediately, a resounding 76.3 percent of the respondents in Haryana and 71.5 percent in Maharashtra said 'No'.
Similarly, to the question of whether they want to change the central government immediately, 72 percent of the respondents in Haryana and 67.2 percent in Maharashtra replied in the negative.
Trend Changes at the State-Level
The figures are in significant contrast to the responses given on questions asked about the state government and the chief minister. While 57.5 percent of the respondents in Haryana said that they do want to change the state government immediately, the figure was 54.9 percent in Maharashtra.
As far as a change in the chief minister in the two poll-bound states is concerned, 52.8 percent of the respondents in Haryana and 54.5 percent in Maharashtra said 'Yes'.
Modi the Most Popular
Nevertheless, Narendra Modi continues to be the most preferred candidate to be the prime minister of India, with 71.6 percent of the respondents in Haryana vouching for him, while in Maharashtra, the figure is 65 percent, according to the C-Voter survey.
Moreover, 64.7 percent of the respondents in Haryana and 64.4 percent in Maharashtra also agree that the Assembly elections will be affected by the results of the Lok Sabha elections, in which the Modi-led BJP secured a larger-than-before mandate of 303 seats, with the National Democratic Alliance winning a total of 353 seats out of 543.
The 288-member Maharashtra Assembly and the 90-member Haryana Assembly will be going to polls on 21 October, with the results to be out on 24 October.
