Amid the political crisis in Karnataka, Section 144 (unlawful assembly) got imposed in Bengaluru for 48 hours by the Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar, starting 6 pm on Tuesday, 23 July.

Though prohibitory orders were initially in place around the Vidhana Soudha building complex, it has now been extended to the entire city.
"Today and tomorrow, we are imposing Section 144 across the city. All pubs, wine shops will be closed till 25th. If anyone is found violating these rules, they will be punished," Bengaluru Police Commissioner Alok Kumar said.
The prohibitory orders came with just minutes to go for the trust vote in the Karnataka Assembly, scheduled at 6 pm on Tuesday.
While Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) leaders had on Monday promised that the floor test will be conducted by 6 pm on Tuesday, most of them were not present in the Assembly when the session began at 10 am.
Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar expressed displeasure over their absence.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the rebel MLAs of the ruling Congress-JD(S) coalition in Karnataka sought four weeks' time to appear before Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh. They were supposed to appear before the Speaker before 11 am on Tuesday.
