According to NDTV, the home ministry has announced that all the formalities for this name change have been completed.

PM Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh are set to hoist a 150 metre high national flag at Port Blair, to commemorate 75 years since freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose declared the formation of the Azad Hind government, reported NDTV.

BJP leader LA Ganesan had requested a name change for the Havelock island in March 2017. According to NDTV, Ganesan had suggested that the place carrying the name of a British general – Sir Henry Havelock – who had fought Indian patriots in 1857 was a matter of shame.

The BJP government in Uttar Pradesh has already renamed Faizabad district as Ayodhya and Allahabad as Prayagraj.
