Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Sunday, 1 December raked up a political storm as he called Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah “ghuspaithiye” (infiltrators) and migrants in Delhi.

Chowdhury made the comments while speaking to ANI over the citizenship Amendment Bill of the Modi government.

“As you can see, the introduction of the Citizenship Amendment Bill has made trouble for the BJP in West Bengal and it is only going too create more trouble for them in the future,” he said.

Further saying that NRC have only created fear in the minds of people, especially the poor, Chowdhury said that the only motive of the BJP is to drive Muslims out of the country.

“Even I can say that Amit Shah ji and Modi ji are infiltrators. Your home is in Gujarat and you have come to Delhi. So you are migrants yourself. Illegal or legal is a peparate issue. In the entire world, all migrants are Indians,” he said.

‘Stupidity,’ Says BJP, Demands Apology from Congress

Chowdhury’s comments drew sharp criticism from the ruling party.

BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said that Chowdhury needs “urgent treatment.”

“The statement of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, calling them illegal immigrants is the height of his stupidity,” Rao told ANI.

“He needs urgent treatment for his imaginary thinking. India is for Indians irrespective of caste, creed, colour and community. No one can change that,” he said.

“For this statement, we demand an apology from the Congress party, its chief Sonia Gandhi and leader Rahul Gandhi. We also want clear directions to be given to Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury to stop making irresponsible comments about India's leadership and send him to hospital for treatment,” he added.

Senior BJP leader Nalin Kohli too said that Congress must apologise for his remarks.

“What kind of language is Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury using against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah? He is a senior leader of the Congress party... He must apologise for this,” Kohli told ANI.

The BJP leader said that this kind of language displays the mindset of the Congress party.

“This institution (government) under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become that of a Pradhan Sevak. A government with an agenda of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwas’,” he said.
