Among the many slices of life that Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared during his ‘informal’ and ‘non-political’ interview with actor Akshay Kumar on Wednesday, 25 April, he claimed that he used to ‘wash his own clothes’ till he became the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
A day after though, a certain Chand Mohammad Dhobi is doing the rounds on social media.
An old media report saying that Dhobi was PM Modi’s washerman in the 1970s is being shared, suggesting that the prime minister was not factually correct in making the claim.
Back in 2017, The Indian Express had reported the death of Dhobi, who was ‘Modi’s laundry man for a decade in 1970s, when Modi lived in Godhra as an RSS pracharak.’
People on social media were quick to dig out the article to counter Modi’s claim.
The official handle of one of the state units of the Congress, too, joined the bandwagon.
However, following the suit of all Twitter debates, there were people defending Modi’s claim as well.
Some suggested that Dhobi might have washed Modi’s ‘bed sheets or curtains’ and not ‘clothes’.
Others said that Dhobi used to ‘iron’ Modi’s clothes and not ‘wash’ them.
Yet others squarely put the blame on ‘anti-Modi gang’.
