They form part of Bengal’s civic police force that helps the men in khaki in carrying out their day-to-day functions. The Quint’s Chandan Nandy caught up with Tapan Das in Kolkata, who is part of Bengal’s civic police force – volunteers with no substantive authority. It’s the unemployed youth across the state who’ve been lured into taking up jobs as civic police personnel, a ploy by the ruling TMC regime for consolidating its vote bank.
