Modi Govt Not Acting on Corruption Allegations: Manmohan in Guj

Congress leader and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, on Thursday, 7 December, accused the BJP government of not taking enough steps to tackle the allegations of corruption leveled against them.

Speaking at Rajkot, Singh said that while the UPA government had dealt with corruption allegations in a very strict manner, the same could not be said of the Modi government.

Whoever faced corruption allegations during UPA was dealt with strictly, but the same cannot be said about BJP, they have not acted on corruption in their rule.

On Economy & National Security

Singh also took a dig at the rate of economic growth under the ruling BJP during his press conference in poll-bound Gujarat,

To equal the UPA’s 10-year average, the economy will have to grow at 10.6% in the fifth year. I would be happy if it were to happen, but I frankly do not think it will happen.

Taking a potshot at the BJP government’s foreign policies, Singh said while answering a question on the state of national security:

Our national security has been hurt by the inconsistent foreign policies of this Government. Some of the steps taken by the Modi government were not in the best interest of the country.

On Narmada

Singh also rubbished PM Modi’s claims of having met and discussed the Narmada issue during the latter’s tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Modiji says he took up Narmada issue with me but I don’t remember him talking to me about this issue, though whenever he wanted to meet me I never refused,was always ready as being PM it was my responsibility to meet all CMs.

Gujarat is gearing up for the state assembly elections, which will be held in two phases on 9 and 14 December.
