Kerala-based Heather Construction company has filed a case against Congress President Sonia Gandhi and four others, on Wednesday, over non-payment of dues in the construction work of Rajiv Gandhi’s statue at Neyyar Dam. The company had filed an FIR earlier in the day, reports CNN News18.

The case also names few others:

  • Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief VM Sudheeran
  • Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Developmental Studies chairman Ramesh Chennithala
  • Former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy
  • Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Developmental Studies director Hidur Muhammad

Heather Constructions, which built the the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Development Studies, had sent a notice to the KPCC earlier. After they failed to respond, the company filed an FIR, says managing partner Rajeev.

The former KPCC head claims he had released the funds after Sonia Gandhi asked them to clear the dues.

However, the current KPCC chief says that the party does not have the money for the project and there is no need for the institute to exist.

Party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala has said that the matter will be resolved within the next 24 hours:

Neither any criminality is involved nor any default of payment. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Development Studies is an institute constituted under the Kerala PCC, they had constituted the research centre. They had constructed one at a cost of about Rs 20 crore. A small payment of Rs 2 crore was sent out thereof. The contractor had filed a civil suit and the issue is almost sorted out. Within 24 hours, all the parties will sit together and settle the issue. There is an ongoing dispute between engineers who built the institute and contractor who executed the work.
