EC Raid on AIDMK Functionary’s Flat –Rs 4.7 Crore in Cash Seized
Officials reported that they found cash packed in bundles in two boxes at the flat.
A raid conducted, on Sunday, at the Egmore residence of AIDMK functionary, Vijay Krishnan who is an MGR Mandram office bearer affiliated to the AIDMK, seized Rs 4.72 crore in cash, police said.
The raid which began at around 4:30 lasted for around four hours. Based on a complaint filed at the Chennai district election office, a Flying Squad Team along with the returning officer of the Egmore constituency reached Krishnan’s flat.
High security was employed in the Commander’s Court apartment complex, where the flat is located in, till the raid was complete.
TG Vinay, deputy commissioner of the Chennai Corporation said they found cash packed in bundles in two boxes at the flat.
The News Minute quoted TG Vinay as saying:
Two courier covers with cash inside were thrown out of the window of the house. This information was conveyed to the income tax department. Later the deputy director of the Income Tax department and his team rushed to the house.
Officials were informed by Vijay that a total of “4.72 crore was there”, although the exact amount is still not known.
Earlier on Friday , in a raid conducted at the property of a businessman, CP Anbunathan, in the Karur area of central Tamil Nadu and seized 4.8 crore, 12 currency-counting machines and an ambulance.
