The truth has finally prevailed, the Congress said on Wednesday after the Supreme Court gave bail to senior party leader P Chidambaram in the INX-Media money laundering case.

Several party leaders welcomed the order granting bail to the former minister, who has been in custody for 105 days, with Chidambaram's lawyer and Congress colleague Abhishek Manu Singhvi describing the ruling as "excellent light after a rather long tunnel".

"Truth finally prevails #SatyamevaJayate," tweeted the party from its official handle.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said that Chidambaram’s “incarceration was vengeful and vindictive”.

P. Chidambarm’s son, Karti Chidambaram says that the plan now is to meet Congress President, Sonia Gandhi once his father is out of jail.

“I am glad my father is finally coming home. Supreme Court has given relief after the unwarranted 106 days of jail. The plan is to call on Congress President Sonia Gandhi after my father comes out of the jail.”

A three-judge bench, headed by Justice R Banumathi, granted bail to the 74-year-old former Union finance minister, who has been in custody since 21 August when he was arrested by the CBI in the INX-Media corruption case.

The Enforcement Directorate had arrested him on 16 October in the money laundering case.

The top court said Chidambaram can't leave the country without prior permission of the court and should neither try to influence the witnesses nor tamper with evidence.

The apex court set aside the Delhi High Court's 15 November verdict denying bail to the former Union finance minister.

Congress Celebrating Corruption: BJP

Stating that P Chidambaram has joined the "Out On Bail Club", the BJP said the Congress' reaction following the Supreme Court's bail to the former minister in a money laundering case was a "classic case" of the party celebrating corruption.

BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra also took a dig at Sonia and Rahul Gandhi on Twitter.
