Amid the chatter around the Samajwadi Party (SP)-Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) alliance, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav met Akhilesh Yadav on Monday, 14 January.

Addressing a joint press conference with Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi vowed that the BJP will be wiped out of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, adding that the fate of Delhi will be decided in these two states.

“I congratulate Mayawati ji and Akhilesh ji for forging this alliance in national interest. It was necessary in light of the situation in the country right now. Those who were slaves of British are in power right now.”
Tejashwi Yadav

Tejashwi alleged that the CBI and ED were no longer agencies but “alliance partners” of the BJP, adding that Lalu Prasad Yadav is in jail because Prime Minister Narendra Modi saw him as “threat.” He also alleged that the prime minister has not fulfilled even a single promise.

The RJD leader had met BSP supremo Mayawati on Sunday and said that the SP-BSP alliance will ‘whitewash’ BJP in Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha election.

In their alliance for Uttar Pradesh for the 2019 general elections, the SP and BSP would be sharing 38 seats each, while keeping the Congress out. The parties, however, said they would not field candidates in Amethi and Raebareli, represented by Congress President Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Meanwhile, the Congress on Sunday said it would contest in all the 80 seats of the politically crucial state.
