Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and Bollywood fans far and wide...it’s D-Day!
Or should we say DeepVeer Day?
That’s right, dear listeners, #DeepVeerKiShaadi is our big story of the day. Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh got married today in traditional Chitrapur Saraswat-style wedding. The celebrity power couple will also perform an Anand Karaj ceremony on the 15 November….and fans couldn’t be more excited!
Fans, friends, celebrity trackers, and the who’s-who of the industry have been talking non-stop about the wedding, but the happy couple has made it clear that this will be a hush hush affair.
So what do we know and what don’t we know?
First! Here’s what we know. ‘Deep Veer Ki Shaadi’ is, by all means, a destination wedding! And the destination is Villa Del Balbianello by Italy’s scenic Lake Como! This is the same place where Reliance’s Mukesh Ambani’s daughter, Isha Ambani, got engaged. It’s also a celebrity hotspot, with George Clooney and Madonna having bought homes there!
Next! Who’s invited?
The couple has made it clear that they want their wedding to remain a private affair with just close friends and family. Initially, the buzz said that only SRK, Farah Khan, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali were invited for the wedding ceremony.
Forty guests arrived in Italy for Deep-Veer’s wedding on the 14th and the couple personally welcomed each guest, greeting them with handwritten notes. Each guest was put up at a private villa facing the scenic lake. And as far as performers go, singer Harshdeep Kaur is just one of the many who confirmed that she’d be performing at the wedding.
The wedding had three levels of security and the couple also asked guests not to carry their phones, so they could ensure that no photos or videos of their special day were leaked to the public. But we do know that during the engagement ceremony, the oh-so-romantic Ranveer got down on one knee and asked for Deepika’s hand.
The couple wore a Sabyasachi ensemble each. Ranveer gave an emotional speech after the wedding, as Deepika broke down. The two shared their first dance as an engaged couple after that, sharing their special moment with their closest friends and family.
The couple has gone out of their way to keep the wedding a strictly-private affair. But if the grapevine can be believed, they spared NO expense in making it a day to remember.
The person behind DeepVeer’s special day is celebrity wedding planner Vandana Mohan. Vandana is one of India's top wedding planners and has done more than 500 weddings including weddings of royalty and even business bigwigs like Parth Jindal.
After hours of waiting eagerly for a glimpse of the newly married couple, social media finally exploded when the first photo of the two was released. Dressed in Sabyasachi, the two sent fans and friends into a tizzy, dazzling with their combined star power.
Those that couldn’t be at the wedding took to social media, with none other than Karan Johar leading the charge and wishing the couple a lifetime of love and joy.
