Podcast: From Break-Up Gali to Move On Nagar, How I Dealt With It

Break ups are like farts – unavoidable. And the lambi journey can get a tad lonely at times. But worry not, dear listener: from Break Up Gali to Move On Nagar, ‘How I Dealt With It’ will be your saathi all along the way.

Real, desi, not at all preachy (okay, maybe just a little!), and full of hope – this brand new podcast series will guide you while you navigate a fantabulous life for yourself post a break-up.

But first you need to remember that just like desi love, even desi break ups have saat janam. (Which is exactly why our Episode 1 sounds rather filmy, but hey, who’s complaining?).

But what are these seven stages, or saat janams as I’d like to call them). Well, let’s find out.

1. The Kya Kya Kya Phase

This is the stage when the background score to your feelings is straight out of an Ekta Kapoor serial.

And emotionally, you are in shock, trying to figure out what just happened. Your loss is deep, and it hurts like sh*t. Which is why the next stage is totally understandable.

2. Keh Do Ki Yeh Jhooth Hai

Also called the denial phase. Where all you want to do is close your eyes tightly because the reality is too painful. But once the reality hits you like a punch, you can soon enter the third phase

3. The Sunny Deol Stage

If you look around, there aren’t a lot of people who can deny ever being in the Sunny Deol stage post a break-up. But hey, psychologists say this anger is an essential part of the grieving process.

While anger can be debilitating, it can also be helpful when you learn to channel all that energy into something productive. Yes, Google the life stories of some of the most successful people in the world, and you will know what I am talking about.

But you know that funny little game life plays na, when just as you are getting accustomed to a life without the ex, you get a ting. Which could possibly land you in the fourth stage.

4. The Ghar Waapsi

Here's how this stage pans out.

Your ex sends you a hey. And that is enough to melt all your Sunny Deol anger and give the relationship one more shot.

Your brain keeps telling you, “Hey buddy, I don’t think it is a great idea.” But you being a braveheart chuck all the brain's signals and send a “hey” accompanied with a wink smiley to your ex.

For those who don’t believe in ghar waapsi (in relationships or otherwise), there’s always the fifth stage.

5. The Reboundbaaz Phase

If your ultimate destination is Move-On Nagar, you can find many rickshawallas aka rebounds who can take you there. But beware, sometimes they could also drop you on a deserted road, somewhere midway!

Chalo koi na... not like you need anyone, anyway. Once that realisation sinks in, you soon enter the positive stage of acceptance, also called the Main Theek Hoon Phase.

6. The Main Theek Hoon Phase

By now you have begun to find happiness within yourself. And you have successfully realised that there is a life beyond the ex... Although you do end up checking them on social media every now and then, you are largely over them and more importantly, focusing on yourself. Your friends, family, and even your irritating aunt are all there to fill your mundane existence. And lastly, before you are fully prepared to enter Move On Nagar, you need to cross one last stage.

7. The Hope Shope Phase

No matter how bad things went down, and how badly you were hurt, you CANNOT enjoy yourself in Move On Nagar before you arm yourself with the belief that YOU DESERVE ALL THE LOVE IN THE WORLD.

These janams can vary for different people. Some can very easily avoid one or two or more of them. Some can take days on this yatra, while others can take months or even years. So chill, and plug in your earphones and listen to this podcast on the way. Promise, the journey will not be lonely anymore.

(This is Episode 1 of How I Dealt With It, a new series on breakups. But till the next episode, a jaadu ki jhappi to anyone going through this!)
