The chants of “Tum toh dhokebaaz ho” and “Rs 100-200 zyada le lo” have been rocking the premises of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) office at Delhi’s ITO since Tuesday, 24 September, as over 1,000 students are protesting against their answer sheets not being evaluated properly.

The students, who are demanding rechecking, allege that evaluators have deducted marks for no reason and even correct answers were marked as wrong.

ICAI conducts examinations twice a year – May and November. Results for the test held in May were announced in August, after which many of the students got their answer sheets through RTI enquiries and allegedly spotted discrepancies.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, too, on Wednesday came out in support of the students.

In a tweet, Gandhi said, "Across India 12 Lakh CA students are fighting for their right to have their exam papers re-evaluated by ICAI".

“Given the widespread reports of errors in the evaluation of answer sheets, this demand is justified and should be supported by all political parties,” he said using the hashtag “dearicaiplschange”.

‘Students Should Call Off Agitation’: ICAI

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, ICAI issued a statement saying that the agitating students were allowed to meet its officers and Council Members, and made aware about the process and regulations regarding re-evaluation of papers.

The statement also urged the students to call off the agitation and “concentrate on studies”.

“They (students) were also requested to call off the agitation and students be advised to concentrate on their studies and preparation for forthcoming examination. In spite of the same; the representatives mentioned that they would continue with this agitation till the time the matter is sorted out,” the statement said.
