A settlement was reached in the infamous case involving United Airlines and 69-year-old Dr David Dao - a passenger who was manhandled by the aviation police in the airline’s flight from Chicago to Louisville, Kentucky on 9 April, 2017.
Video of this manhandling, which had gone viral on the internet, generated furore across the world.
While the amount of the settlement has not been disclosed, United Airlines has claimed sole responsibility for the incident, thereby relieving Republic Airways and Chicago Police of any liability, The Independent reported.
Speaking to NBC News anchor Lester Holt, Oscar Munoz, CEO of United Airlines, emphasised on the need to have an “alternative” way to remove passengers due to overboarding. He further said:

This sentiment was echoed in a statement issued by United Airlines, which was quoted by Reuters as saying:
We are pleased to report that United and Dr. Dao have reached an amicable resolution of the unfortunate incident that occurred aboard flight 3411. We look forward to implementing the improvements we have announced, which will put our customers at the center of everything we do.
