For some, especially lawyers, it is a mere technicality.

The name of Yakub Abdul Razak Memon is still listed as a petitioner in a ‘fresh matter’ in the Supreme Court.

It’s a mere technicality, but Yakub Memon’s petition is listed in the SC, to be officially withdrawn on Friday.

Memon’s lawyers explain the petition refers to Yakub’s plea that his curative petition be heard by a larger bench.

The matter, of course, is infructuous in legal terms. Which means it will be withdrawn officially by Memon’s lawyer on Friday because the cause for which this petition was filed stands defeated.

The issue mentioned in this petition by the lawyers was brought up during the last minute hearing of the case.

Yakub Memon was executed on July 30th in Nagpur Jail for his involvement in the planning and plotting of the Mumbai serial blasts that killed 257 people and injured 700 on March 12, 1993.
