Woman Delivers Baby in Mumbai Local Train; Both Mother, Baby Safe
Salma Shaikh went into labour on the train and gave birth when the train had halted at the Dadar station.
A 26-year-old woman delivered a baby girl inside a local train in Mumbai that had halted at Dadar station on Monday night. At about 10:15 pm on Monday night, when the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus bound train arriving from Kalyan station had halted at platform 3 in Dadar, Salma Shaikh went into labour. Doctors of the One Rupee Clinic at the station came to her aid.
We got a call from the station manager at around 10 pm last night, who said that the woman was suffering from severe abdominal pain. Our doctors reached platform 3, where the train had halted, and delivered the baby inside the coach.Rahul Ghule, founder of One Rupee Clinics along the Central Railway network
This is the second time in 2017 that doctors from the One Rupee Clinic at the railway station helped deliver a baby. In July this year, another 26-year-old, Gudia Sheikh, went into labour at Ghatkopar station, while travelling from Titwala to Kurla station, along with her husband. Gudiya Sheikh then delivered her baby at the One Rupee Clinic located at Ghatkopar station.
‘One Rupee Clinics’ have been set up at select stations on the Central Railway’s suburban stations to provide emergency help to rail accident victims, and give medical treatment to the commuters. Presently, there are clinics in 10 stations along the Central Railway.
