19-Yr-Old Raped in Moving Car in Shimla, CM Vows Strict Action

Days after a 19-year-old girl in Shimla alleged that she was raped by three persons near Shimla’s Mall road area on Sunday, 28 April, the Shimla police has said that there is no proof of kidnapping found during investigation, reported The Indian Express.

According to the police the girl had said that she was kidnapped from Shimla’s Bhattakufer area, but during the investigation the CCTV footage shows the girl walking from Shiv mandir to Hill Grove School.

As per a PTI report, the woman lodged a complaint through Gudiya helpline and alleged that she was raped in the moving car at around 10 pm. The girl was reportedly left on the road with torn clothes. The police has still not made any arrests in the matter till now.

However, an eight-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Parveer Thakur, Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Shimla was constituted to investigate the case on Tuesday.

A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at Dhalli police station, police official said, adding that the matter is being investigated.

Girl Was Molested on 17 April: Report

The Indian Express reported quoting sources in the police department that the girl doesn’t know the people who raped her, but she can recognise them as they had molested and stalked her earlier.

The girl was reportedly molested by these men on 17 April when she had taken a lift in their car. She had reportedly approached the police to inquire about reporting the case who had given her the Gudiya helpline number to report the crime.

The girl didn’t tell her parents about the incident as she was worried that they will ask her to return home in Haryana, reported Indian Express.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Vows ‘Strictest Action’

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said that strictest action will be taken against the perpetrators.

“It's a very unfortunate incident, should've never happened. I've directed to take strictest action in this matter. The girl is recording her statement before Judicial Magistrate,” Thakur said.

Thakur added that he has asked for a report within 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) protested in Shimla over the issue and submitted a memorandum to the governor of the state, Acharya Dev Vrat, demanding dismissal of the state government over its inaction.

The memorandum was also sent to the President Ram Nath Kovind.

The BJP Mahila Morcha has also reportedly submitted a memorandum to the Shimla Deputy Commissioner Rajeshwar Goel on Tuesday demanding action.
