While peak summer is weighing on Indians across the country, the BJP is facing a one-of-a-kind heatwave – severe criticism for its inability to contain surging fuel prices. On its ninth day now, petrol and diesel prices have shot up exponentially, burning a hole in the aam aadmi’s pocket. But the issue has also landed Bollywood’s ‘Khiladi No.1’ aka Akshay Kumar in a controversy.

Guys, I think it’s time to clean up your bicycles and hit the road! As per sources, expecting another petrol price hike.

This is what Kumar tweeted in 2012 after fuel prices hit the roof. The Bollywood star, who is known to voice his opinion on many issues, was also publicly vocal about the fuel price hike back then.

A parody account on Twitter by the name of ‘Unofficial Sususwamy’ retweeted his tweet from 2012.

However, the tweet was soon found to be deleted, which irked many. Why the actor decided to delete the tweet is best known to him. But Twitterati was clearly not pleased with people calling him names like ‘ABVP supporter’ and ‘Canadian citizen’.

Some other tweets of Kumar that were put during the UPA government’s regime also resurfaced.

Kumar wasn’t the only Bollywood actor who drew flak for his silence on the issue. Many on Twitter shared screenshots of previous tweets by actors like Amitabh bachchan and Anupam Kher and questioned their silence.

Whether the comments of Bollywood actors are relevant on the issue or not is a subjective matter. But Akshay Kumar’s silence and his deletion of the Tweet has certainly not gone down well with Twitter users.
