Former Times Now editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami’s upcoming venture, Republic, has been gathering momentum in the last few days, with the latest report suggesting that it has been carrying test broadcasts across multiple television operators since last week.
As per the report, these broadcasts carry the catchphrase ‘We are your voice’, with the layout – with prominent text – being reminiscent of Times Now’s design. The branding has a red and yellow colour theme, using logos ‘R’ and ‘Republic’ in the (four) corners of the screen.
With the launch of Republic nearing, the noise around it has also increased. India Today kicked up a storm on social media on Monday when it posted a picture of its billboard advertisement right next to that of Republic’s. Introducing its new anchor Anjana Om Kashyap, the advertisement seemed to be a direct challenge to Goswami.
It is being said that major news organisations, including CNN News-18 as well as Times Now, are working on new strategies in order to counter Republic.
Being promoted as an “independent” and “global” media organisation, Republic has, as one of its investors, Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrashekhar.
