It’s official! BJP and PDP have decided to go their separate ways. On 19 June, BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav announced that it was “untenable” for the party to remain in alliance with the PDP in the state.

The Quint spoke to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir to try and get a sense of what the collapse means to them. While some residents pointed out that not much has been done in terms of development in the years of the coalition rule, others expressed happiness at the collapse of the government.

Political Activist Tauseef Raina said that peace and stability should take precedence over politics. “It’s sad that the government fell. It’s important to handle the current situation. We should have focused more on peace and stability, not politics,” he told The Quint.
