Tripura's Royal family head Pradyot Deb Burman said the Citizenship Amendment Act ignores the problems of the native people of his state and betrays the "original spirit of NRC".

“The Act violates every understanding the government of India has had with the people of Tripura including the instrument of accession.”

Some tribal majority areas of the state have been exempted under the sixth schedule but Burman says that it is not sufficient to stop the influx of refugees in his state which “has been pushed to the wall” because of “a loss of culture and language.”

After a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, Burman filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court demanding a complete exemption to his state from the Act.
