According to The Times of India, the Uttarakhand government is all set to invest Rs 25 crore to hunt for the mythical Sanjeevani Booti.

We have set an initial budget of 250 million rupees ($37 million) for the project. We have to try and it will never go to waste. If we are determined we will certainly find it

The plant, famous after its mention in the Ramayana, is credited to have the power to cure all physical ailments. In the epic, Lord Rama’s brother, Laxman is cured using the healing powers of the plant.

The request for the funds was first made to the Central Government, according to the report. However, once it was rejected, the State government provided the required amount for the research.

The work on finding the plant will begin in August in the Dronagiri range of Himalayas, located near the Chinese border. According to the Ramayana, this range included the mountain on which the plant grew.

Efforts over the years have failed to establish the existence of this magical herb which, in the scripture, could restore life. It is also fabled to glow in the dark.
