Two men died after allegedly inhaling poisonous gases while cleaning a 40-feet deep sewer in Uttar Pradesh’s Faizabad on Saturday, 15 June, reported news agency ANI.
The two men, accompanied by a contractor and three others, had entered the sewer through a manhole at around noon on Saturday.
The incident comes a day after seven people, including four sanitation workers, died of suffocation while cleaning a septic tank in a hotel in Gujarat’s Vadodara.
After attempts by the police and fire department to recover the bodies failed, a local swimmer was called on to do the job.
“When we reached the spot, two men had already drowned. When we checked, there was gas inside. Two bodies have been taken out. Probe is on”, Sachin Kumar Singh, Inspector of the Chinhat police station, told ANI .
