After the Indian government cancelled talks with Pakistan on 21 September, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said in a tweet that he was “disappointed at the arrogant and negative response” to his call for a resumption of dialogue.

“All my life, I have come across small men occupying big offices who do not have the vision to see the larger picture,” Khan said.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said the government cancelled talks because of two reasons :

These were the latest brutal killings of Indian security personnel by Pakistan entities, and the recent release of a series of 20 postal stamps by Pakistan, glorifying terrorists.

Khan’s reaction comes after the Pakistan government said it is “deeply disappointed at the announcement made by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi today (21 September) about the cancellation of the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of India and Pakistan, which was to be held on the sidelines of UNGA in New York.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who was to be part of the meeting with Sushma Swaraj, said he regretted the way India first accepted their goodwill and then rejected it.

We were of the view that everyone will benefit if we sit together and solve our issues... They first agreed but later had to find excuses to reject our proposal. In the month of September, they named an action taken in the month of July as the reason, which was inappropriate.

Pakistani Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Hussain said he had “never seen such a puerile (childish) statement given by any Foreign Office”.
