In a horrific incident in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur, a three-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped from a railway station and then gang-raped before being beheaded. The mutilated body of the girl was found in a plastic bag in the bushes near a slum close to the station on Tuesday, 30 July. The incident allegedly took place on Friday, 26 July.
Three men in their thirties, including two accused of raping the girl, have been arrested. The three have confessed to raping, strangling and beheading the child, said the police.
According to a report by NDTV, the girl was sleeping with her mother at the railway station before she went missing last week. Her mother reported her missing the next morning.
In the course of the investigation, the police found CCTV footage that showed a man walking out of the station with the sleeping child in his arms. The woman reportedly told the police that the man may be her partner, whom she left her husband for and travelled to Jharkhand with from West Bengal’s Purulia district. The man, who was present at the station with the woman, is one of the three people arrested by the police.
One of the other two arrested had also just walked out of jail after serving the term for kidnapping and attempting to kill a child in 2015, the report stated.
The police are now trying to recover the girl’s severed head which is yet to be found.
