Delhi Cabbie Arrested For Allegedly Trying to Abduct Woman Judge

A cab driver has been reportedly arrested for allegedly trying to abduct a woman judge in Delhi on Monday, 27 November. The accused, Rajeev, the driver of a cab attached to a company called Makhija Travels, will be produced in a court on 28 November, The Times of India reported.

In her complaint, as accessed by the daily, the judge alleged that the driver diverted the vehicle towards Hapur in Uttar Pradesh at around 10 am on Monday, instead of driving her to the Karkardooma court in east Delhi as scheduled.

The judge alleged that when she noticed the driver taking a different route, she shouted at him but he remained unfazed. According to the report, she made a PCR call and informed one of her colleagues before the driver took a u-turn and began driving back to Delhi. The police tracked down the cab via the judge's mobile phone and intercepted it via the Ghazipur toll plaza.

When questioned, Rajeev, a resident of Shahdara in northeast Delhi, claimed to have missed a turn and had to take a detour.

The cab company is under the scanner and officials are checking whether a police verification was done on the accused driver, TOI reported.

According to the report, acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal conveyed her "grave concerns" over the safety and security of women judicial officers of subordinate judiciary to the Delhi government’s law department.
