Sunrisers Hyderabad retained the core of the players which took them through to the final of IPL 2018, but went into the auction with one significant change from the trading window – Shikhar Dhawan, their highest run-scorer in the IPL and a former captain of the franchise, was traded to Delhi Capitals in exchange for Vijay Shankar, Abhishek Sharma and Shahbaz Nadeem.
In the auction for the 2019 season, the Sunrisers made their first purchase by buying England’s Jonny Bairstow for Rs 2.2 crore, and keeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha for Rs 1.2 crore.
Another vital ‘addition’ to the Sunrisers’ setup was the retention of David Warner, who sat out the 2018 season as he served a ban for ball-tampering.
Led by New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, SRH entered the IPL 2019 Auction with a purse of Rs 9.70 crore – from which they could purchase a maximum of five players, two of which could be overseas buys.
