Almost a week before Mumbai Mirror published this story, The Quint had exclusively reported the police’s inaction when Sheena Bora’s body was discovered in the jungles of Raigad on 23 May 2012.

The report stated that the then Raigad SP RD Shinde instructed his subordinates at Pen village, where Sheena Bora’s burnt body was discovered, not to take any action on the remains.

As per the Mumbai Mirror story, Subhash Mirge, an Inspector then posted in Raigad, said he had received express instructions by his senior Shinde to ignore the matter even though Mirge sensed foul play when the body was found.

After Shinde’s orders, Mirge’s team reportedly buried the body and the case too got buried along with it. Mirge is currently posted in Pune, and has declined to discuss the statement he gave to the police.

Shinde, who is now being questioned on the DGP’s orders, says:

The only thing I can tell is that I am done with the paperwork [his version of what happened in May 2012] and will submit the same to the appropriate authority soon.
— R D Shinde, the current ACP of central region.
